The following are descriptions of the programs available through the Recreation Department. (Please check the Events Calendar and News and Notices in other areas of our website for information on the scheduling of sports.)

For Seniors
The Recreation Department runs a one hour exercise program for seniors every Tuesday at 2:pm at the Co-op Seniors Home. All seniors are welcome. This goes year round.The Recreation Department runs a Bingo Program for Seniors for one hour starting at 2p.m. on Wednesdays year round. Players can win small cash prizes. The Bingos alternate from building to building in the following order:
Senior Citizens A (next to Elementary School)
Senior Citizens B (next to Elementary School)
Dalton Apartments (across street from Elementary School)
Co-op Seniors Home (on MacLeod Lane)
If for some reason, a Bingo is missed on a Wednesday, then the schedule moves on to the next building the following week. Seniors are free to attend any or all of the bingos.
Elementary School Kids
The Recreation Department runs an after School Program at the Elementary School from 3-4 p.m. during the period September to Christmas. This program includes boys and girls and will schedule basketball, floor hockey, tag and other sports, during the four months. The School fields are the site for more action in soccer and t-ball. The Recreation Department along with other Recreation Departments in Alberton, Brooklyn, O'Leary, Ellerslie and Richmond schedule soccer for ages 5-14 years (Boys and Girls) in the West Prince Community Soccer League from 1st week of June to last week of August. There is also a program for children, Boys and Girls of 3-4 years of age in T-ball and soccer in July and august. All the above programs are provided at the Elementary School grounds.
Baseball
Peewee and Midget Boys play for a West Prince team in an Island Wide League. These teams use the Aces Diamond.The Mosquito Boys also have a West Prince team and play in an Island Wide League using the Legion Diamond for their games.
Softball
Slow Pitch softball leagues for Men and Women operate during the summer months on the Hogan and Legion diamonds. Softball tournaments are held on all three diamonds (Aces, Hogan’s and Legion). Women’s orthodox softball is played on the Legion Diamond.Learn to Play and Rally Caps for Boys and Girls are scheduled for Mondays on the Legion Field during July and August.
Other ActivitiesThe Recreation Department uses the Bi-Centennial Park to stage events during the year. Irish Moss Festival events – flag raising, entertainment, and games.
IWK Festival in the Park --- entertainment, refreshments, 50/50 Draw, pony rides,
New Year’s Eve celebrations --- fireworks, BBQ, refreshments, bonfire,
Winter Carnival --- BBQ, refreshments, skating and sliding (weather permitting).
The Recreation Department assists groups in their use of the Credit Union Arena. The Director helps the Minor Hockey Association and Silver Wings Figure Skating Club provide activities for the young. The Director specifically helps to coordinate hockey tournaments during March Break and organizes some playoff schedules at the end of the hockey season.
The Irish Moss Festival is mostly located in the Arena or outside the grounds and uses the resources of the Recreation Department for the month of June and especially during the Festival Days.
Horsepull events are scheduled from time to time in the field behind the Bi-Centennial Park. Access is gained by following Park Lane and turning left at the end of the Park.
The Myrick Shore Park (Fishermen’s Haven) is used for some events during the Irish Moss Festival.
The Recreation Department schedules golf tournaments from time to time at the St. Felix Golf and Country Club.
