Facilities

The Community uses a variety of facilities to provide recreation and leisure activities for its residents. Following is a listing of the many facilities that we have activities scheduled.

Municipal Centre

Board room is available for small groups to have committee meetings, to schedule art classes, exercise programs and other activities.

Firehall Clubroom

Can be utilized for various activities such as Bingos, Card Play, Dances, games during Winter Carnival and Irish Moss Festival and Christmas Parties.

Bi-Centennial Park

Park has a play area with slides, spring animals, swings, teeter totters, picnic tables and benches. Park has a sand court to support volleyball and other sports. There is a gazebo and washrooms to complement the park equipment. Park is surrounded by Spring Lane, Railway Street and Park Lane. There is a public parking lot adjacent to the park. Park serves as the entrance to the Confederation Trail.

Horse Pull field (a.k.a. Coalshed Field)

At various times during the year horse owners stage horse pulls.

Tignish Elementary School

Thanks to the Western School Board for the use of the School and Playground area. The gymnasium is used for basketball, floor hockey, tag and walking club. The playground is used for T-ball and soccer.

Hogan’s Ball Field

Thanks to the Parish of St. Simon and St. Jude for the use of their property. Various age levels of softball are played here.

Aces Diamond

Thanks to the Tignish Sports Recreation Association for the use of their field. Different levels of baseball and softball are played here.

Lower Field (a.k.a. Legion Field)

Thanks to the Tignish Sports Recreation Association for the use of their field. Softball is the main Sport here although the Mosquitoes also play baseball.

Credit Union Arena

Owned by the Tignish Sports Recreation Association. The Arena provides the venue for the Minor Hockey Association, Figure Skating Club, intermediate/senior hockey teams, recreational hockey Leagues, and public skating. The Irish Moss Festival uses the Arena as its main venue.

Parish Centre

Owned by the Parish of St. Simon and St. Jude. The Centre provides a location for bingos, meetings, dancing, bowling and various performances to entertain the Public.

Royal Canadian Legion – Branch # 6

The Legion provides Bingos, Darts, Dances, Card parties, Banquets, and live entertainment in the lounge.

West Prince Heritage Complex Association Inc.

Property on the Chaisson Rd. This field provides the venue for one day of the Irish Folk Festival and the entire Red Clay Bluegrass Festival. The buildings used during the festivals are owned by the Bluegrass Festival Committee.

Future plans call for the construction of a Heritage Complex at the top of the hill towards the road.
